God Is Pleased To Save Us

In Gal 5:16-17, the Apostle Paul reveals that God “…was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles…”.

Read that again - God was “pleased”.

While Paul was persecuting and trying to destroy the church (Gal 1:13), God was “pleased” to reveal Jesus to him. While Paul was “breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord” (Acts 9:1), God was “pleased” to reveal Jesus to Him. While Paul was “ravaging the church, entering house after house, and dragging off men and women, [putting] them in prison”, God was “pleased” to reveal Jesus to Him.

Many years later, Paul would reflect on his former life, saying in 1 Tim 1:16 - “…I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.”

Meaning, no matter what MY sins may be, God is also “pleased” to reveal His Son to ME. In fact, “the Lord was pleased to crush [Jesus], putting Him to grief” (Isa 53:10) and He “was WELL-PLEASED through the foolishness of [that] message preached to save those who believe” (1 Cor 1:21).

If God was “pleased” to crush His only Son for our sakes, “pleased” to reveal Jesus to us, and if He was “well-pleased” to save us through the message of His Son, can I not “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to “please” HIM in all respects”? (Col 1:10).

Praise God who is “pleased” to endure so much evil on our part that a remnant may be saved.
